Advanced Imaging and CT

At River West we offer in-house ultrasound, radiology and CT.

Our veterinarians have the ability to use these higher level tools when necessary in diagnosing a pet.   In addition to our certified ultrasonographer performing these scans on your pet, all advanced imaging will be sent to a board-certified radiologist for further interpretation.

Computed Tomography

CT (Computed Tomography), is 3D radiographic imagery.  During a CT scan, the scanner rotates 360 degrees around your pet taking sliced imagery of the body or area of concern.  These high resolution images are then constructed into 3D form, providing more precise imagery than a standard two-dimensional x-ray.

A CT scan might be recommended for your pet with skeletal, soft tissue, cancer, or nasal/ ear issues.

*CT imaging is included with all dental procedures performed at RWAH.  This decreases anesthetic time than with standard dental x-rays.

Ultrasonography

Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique that does not involve radiation.  An ultrasound probe is used to omit high frequency sound waves into the area of interest. Reflections of the sound waves are then converted into a 2D image.  A full abdominal ultrasound will be submitted to a board-certified radiologist for interpretation.

River West is proud to have a certified ultrasonographer on staff and ready to scan your pet at your convenience.

Radiology

X-rays, also known as radiographs, are the most common form of imaging in the veterinary field.  X-rays are useful for diagnosing fractures, arthritis, pneumonia and detecting foreign objects or tumors.

In obtaining a radiograph, a beam of x-rays will enter the pet, taking a picture of their distribution as they pass through.
